The ill-conceived ad by the Spanish Federation Basketball Team, including our very own Laker Pau Gasol, is not endearing or cute. As an Asian American born and raised in Southern California, I am offended by the ad regardless of where it ran. In the context of the Beijing Olympics dedicated to harmony, this ad is a disharmonious gesture regardless of the empty excuse that it was meant to be humorous.

PALO ALTO — Imagine: being a 17-year-old high school student with Stanford University on your transcript.

Thirty students — incoming high school seniors and college freshmen nationwide — recently completed an annual course which covered Japanese history, politics, economics, literature, pop culture, as well as the U.S.-Japan relationship through Stanford's Reischauer Scholars Program (RSP). The online course's top students were recently honored at an Aug. 22 luncheon hosted by the RSP.

For rap duo Magnetic North, moving from the Bay Area to New York to pursue a rap career in the city that gave birth to hip-hop has been no easy task.
