PLACERVILLE, Calif. — There is a relative calmness in these El Dorado Hills. It is far removed from the pandemonium of the Gold Rush that swamped the area a century and-a-half earlier, and a world away from the daily hustle and bustle of San Francisco’s Japantown.

Earlier this month, talk show host Don Imus made racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team, and CBS Radio fired him eight days later.

Now the Organization for Chinese Americans (OCA) is waiting to see if CBS Radio will take equivalent measures against two more of their on-air personalities who crossed a similar line.

Recently, I went to India with the volunteer organization Habitat for Humanity. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do much sightseeing since we spent a lot of time building houses, but the experience was well worth it.
