SAN JOSE -- The City of San Jose is finally moving its Maintenance Corporation Yard (commonly referred to as Corporation Yard) and parking lot to a new location, making way for a reported $100 million redevelopment opportunity in one of the country's last three remaining Japantowns.

For Ida Sakohira Kawaguchi becoming a cadet nurse during World War II was an opportunity she seized.

Kawaguchi admired the Nikkei nurses working in the Gila River, Arizona concentration camp and they inspired her to take classes to become a nurse aid. This job paid $16 a month and gave Kawaguchi the opportunity to experience seeing childbirth and various surgical procedures.
