When you looked at the box score from the A's and Mariners game a few days ago, you probably thought "No way, that can't be right, that's got to be a misprint."

A "Suzuki" leading off for the A's and a "Suzuki" leading off for the Mariners.

"It's got to be a misprint."

Then you saw both had the identical line, 1 for 4 with a run scored.

"Must be a misprint."

SAN JOSE — John Nakashima, president of Nakashima Golf, seized an opportunity to open a golf shop in San Jose's Japantown after a friend, Hiro Funatsu of Hiro's Golf Shop, decided to retire after 20 years of successful business.

Nakashima, a Sansei born in Stockton, Calif., currently has three golf studios open in the cities of Wichita (Kansas), Stockton and now in San Jose.

ARLINGTON, Texas (Kyodo) — Kansas City Royals pitcher Hideo Nomo, who had been designated for assignment and put on waivers, was released April 29.

The Yokohama BayStars earlier expressed interest in possibly acquiring the services of the 39-year-old Nomo, but Yokohama team president Kuniyuki Sasaki said April 30 such a move appeared highly unlikely.

OAKLAND (Kyodo) — The Kansas City Royals designated Japanese right-hander Hideo Nomo for assignment April 20 while recalling right-hander Luke Hochevar from Triple-A Omaha for the day's starter against the Oakland Athletics.

NEW YORK (Kyodo) — The San Francisco Giants on April 20 recalled right-handed pitcher Keiichi Yabu from Triple-A Fresno, the club said on its official website.

The Giants placed Erick Threets on the 15-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain, put Yabu on the 25-man active roster and designated outfielder Rajai Davis for assignment.
